We Drove Across the Amazon (and it sucked)
The Amazon rainforest produces 20% of all oxygen on earth, receiving the nickname "The Lungs of our Planet". But explorers who venture into this jungle have often called it by another name. The Green Hell.
After overlanding across the americas, we decided to drive our old Toyota Land Cruiser with a roof top tent from Peru to Guyana. Initially, the plan was to go to Suriname, French Guiana, back to Brazil, and then head south. But things would go wrong, from a robbery to car trouble. But ultimately, we would end our trip short when bad luck turned to tragedy.
Of course, the Amazon doesn't suck at all. It's an incredible place, and even we would have some amazing experiences. It still offers endless opportunities for pure, raw adventure and exploration. But the way the Amazon has been treated in the last 60 years is what really sucks. To drive across its highways, whether the Trans-Amazonica, or the BR-319 running south to north, means to drive through endless cattle farms. A path of destruction started by a military dictatorship and perpetuated by illegal deforestation.
What we thought would be the ultimate 4x4 adventure through thick remote jungle, would instead be a long highway drive through the burning farmlands.

Peru's name is derived from Quechua, meaning Land of Abundance. Without a doubt, Peru would be one of the most diverse countries we would ever visit. Traveling this country in an off road camper would allow us to explore remote desert peninsulas with long sandy beaches, before cutting inland to explore snow capped mountains and glaciers situated at over 20,000 feet in elevation. This would only...

I have PTSD from an incident with my dog! You can purchase Coyote collars, very popular out West. GPS & LED collars on Amazon$ 35 ! I kept a very long lead on my dog after several incidents! Too many hawks, eagles, snakesowls bobcats, etc out there! I hated myself for a very long time as I knew I should of been proactive in buying this tech for dogs. My dog lived after a long surgery & full body cast. She remained in baby diapers for 6 years. Drs told me to out her down but i knew she was s fighter Runt of the litter at 8 lbs. Toy poodle! She could still run, just wiggly, lol! She lived 16 yrs. Many people loved her & met her in our solo travels. I tel people dogs are newborns forever! Alot of work,if done very well! People dog nap , drop rat poison, so you must be vigilant! Peace & Grace 🕊️💙

Yeah, that was our biggest regret honestly. People said to keep her on a leash, if we had done that she would have been on a leash every second of her life, not to mention with 6 other dogs on the property constantly playing around she would've just been getting tangled. Our rule was line of sight, when we found her she was living on the side of the road, so she was pretty cautious naturally. It was just crazy that the first time she ever got scared and took off was also the last. A GPS collar would have let us track her down instantly. It's what we keep telling everyone.

Just found you guys on UA-cam. Your video made me think back to my 20s when I was much more adventurous than I am now (and more than twice the age). I've grown up with dogs my whole life. I often joke that I love dogs more than people and some days it really is true. I had a sweet girl, Emily, that I had rescued and raised from a pup. She was such a sweet and healthy girl her whole life until one day she had a seizure. The vet couldn't explain why but we tried some medications. Little did I know that her first seizure would mark a very short countdown to the day when she would pass away in my lap...about 10 days later. It's just not fair...they are so happy and full of life one minute, and the next minute they're gone. It's just not fair. I'm so sorry for your loss. Namaste to you and Cuenca.

Ah man, I understand. When I was still in the military my dog was getting pretty old, but he was still healthy, he was with my parents at that time as I couldn't have him on base of course. But all of a sudden he got a lump on his neck, it started filling up so fast that within a day he couldn't walk anymore. My parents ended up taking him to the vet, I paid a fair bit of money for a biopsy that came back as inconclusive. He had to be put to sleep a day or two later. It's really not fair. Thanks for the comment.

"Jair Bolsonaro focused on the comercialization of the amazon". Common, the north region of Brazil lives in poverty because that region is under developed. They are doomed to live precariously. The critics of developing the north region are all far away on the cities, where it was once a forest as well. Everyone there wants br319 paved, among other developments. Deforestation happens with or without paved roads, go to Para in the dry season and you can see it. Sorry the unburden, but as a reasonable guy you look like hope you can understand. That's aside, I am in the middle of the video. Nice one 👍

Hey guys sorry to hear about your bad ending to such an incredible journey. Please don't jump on me for pointing this out. I do not mean to be offensive to either of you. If you look at your videos you can clearly see that the videos with Niki on the the thumbnail got 500k and 900k views respectively (compared to most other videos with like 50k or less views). Obviously, as all of us who watched all of your content know, Niki is very beautiful. If you simply included more of Niki in the videos, and Niki on the thumbnail with or without you, this channel will quick grow exponentially. When I produce content with my wife on the thumb or in the video the videos get more the 50% more views. Of course we just want people to watch for our good content. But getting them to click requires some persuasion when users are flooded with thousands of thumbnails every day.... Anyway, that just my observation based on your view stats and of course my opinion on how to improve the channel. My hope is that you can generate money from the site so you can continue to make more great content and feed your journeys. Good luck! I look forward to your next videos!

Thank you! Unfortunately, there's really no simple way to sell a foreign vehicle in South America. I can't really explain the process in a comment here, realistically you would aim to sell in Chile, there's sort of a way to get power of attorney over a vehicle there, while it stays registered in its home country... But in the end I think the better option would be to buy a rig in Chile, do a loop, sell it in Chile again. Shipping costs are pretty crazy now. So unless it's a really valuable build, it's not worth it.
